Kling 4 vs Kling 3 Omni: what actually changes
Kling 4.0 offers longer clips, more references and higher resolution than Kling 3.0 Omni. But as of October 2026, only Kling 3.0 Omni is available through a public API. If you need consistent characters or products in production today, Kling 3.0 Omni is the one you can build on. Kling 4.0 is worth preparing for. This page compares the two on the points that matter for reference video and marks clearly what is published rather than tested.
Availability as of October 2026
Kling 3.0 Omni was announced by Kuaishou on February 6, 2026. It is available in Kling's own app and through API providers such as fal.ai, with published per-second prices.
Kling 4.0 went through an early-access phase from late September and officially launched in Kling's app on October 15, 2026, according to Kuaishou. Kling also offers a faster, cheaper Kling 4.0 Flash mode. The developer API is still marked as coming soon. fal.ai lists Kling 4.0 with prices, but its model page says API access is coming soon and limits use to its playground.

What the differences mean for consistency
More reference slots matter most. With Kling 3.0 Omni, four angles per element is enough for a face or a simple product, but tight for a character with a distinctive outfit, or a product with several important sides. Kling 4.0's larger budget means fewer angles the model has to invent.
Longer clips cut both ways. A 30-second shot avoids a cut between two 15-second clips, which is where drift often shows. But a longer generation gives the model more time to wander. Until we can run the same references through both models, we would not assume a 30-second Kling 4.0 clip holds a face better than two well-matched Kling 3.0 clips.
Keyframes help with planned sequences. They let you pin a character's position and pose at several points, which is useful for storyboarded ads. For loose social clips, the reference set does more work.
What we have not verified
We have not run side-by-side tests of Kling 4.0 against Kling 3.0 Omni with identical references, so this page makes no claim about which keeps a face or a label more faithfully. The Kling 4.0 figures above are Kling's published specifications, not results we measured. We will add a test with the same characters and products once Kling 4.0 is available through an API.
Which to pick for consistent characters and products
Use Kling 3.0 Omni if you need to ship now, need an API, or need predictable costs. Keep each shot within 15 seconds, give every subject a clean main image plus its best three angles, and plan cuts between clips.
Plan for Kling 4.0 if your work depends on long single takes, more than four angles of a subject, or 4K delivery. Prepare a larger reference set now. Extra angles do no harm with Kling 3.0 and pay off when Kling 4.0 opens.
RefVid runs on Kling 3.0 Omni today and will switch to Kling 4.0 when its API opens. Your saved characters and products carry over, so the reference images you upload now keep working after the switch.
Frequently asked questions

- No. As of October 2026 the developer API is marked as coming soon, both on Kling's side and on fal.ai.
