What Seedance reference to video does

  • In reference mode, Seedance takes images, and on ByteDance's API also video and audio clips, of what must appear, and generates a new clip around them. Seedance 2.5, introduced on July 31, 2026, takes up to 30 reference images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips, 50 files in all, and makes up to 30 seconds in one pass, according to ByteDance and fal.ai.
  • In RefVid you send it up to 10 photos of one subject. Seedance 2.5 refuses photos of real-looking people before the clip runs, and the credits come back, so it is a model for products, pets, toys and illustrated characters.

Seedance reference image: which photos to use

  • Three to five photos of the product from different angles on a plain background, including a close-up of the label. For an illustrated character, a reference sheet that shows it from several sides works as one of the photos.
  • Then write the scene and the camera, for example: "The shoe lands on wet pavement in slow motion, water splashes up, the camera tracks low beside it."
